The Churchyard Task Team "Got Moving"
Caring for God’s Acre’s Churchyard Task Team joined in with Get Moving Week with enthusiasm on Tuesday, when they built compost bins at the historic Stanton Lacy churchyard near Ludlow. However the day started with stretching exercises to warm up stiff muscles, and song and dance to speed up the breathing, and give everyone a laugh!
Then the heavy work started in converting old pallets and stakes into compost bins to be proud of. “Stanton Lacy churchyard is renowned for its beautiful display of snowdrops in spring, but to conserve them grass and nettles need to be mown, and the mowings need to be put somewhere” said Richard, a local man who helps look after the churchyard. The bins will create compost to be re-used on flower beds, and provide a home for wildlife.
“The Churchyard Task Team volunteers, demonstrate well the benefits of physical activity for mental wellbeing. They come out every week, working around the county in beautiful churchyards, and go home feeling tired, but relaxed and happy”, said Hilary Smith, the Volunteer Co-ordinator for Caring for God’s Acre.
