This project will put burial grounds across England and Wales on the map by revealing their hidden heritage and importance to biodiversity.
Funder: The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund
Project duration: December 2019 to December 2021
Welsh churchyards, chapel yards and cemeteries are fantastic places for biodiversity and we are just discovering how interesting they are. This project will take the records produced through the Beautiful Burial Ground project and displayed on the Burial Grounds portal on the NBN Atlas. We will put this raw data into an accessible form and use it to target managers of burial grounds that are particularly rich in wildlife, offering help, information and support. Read more here.
This project focuses on the social history to be discovered and shared by exploring 5 burial grounds in Birmingham. We will be running events, mapping the sites and other activities.
Project Duration- July 2018-November 2019
Burial grounds in Wales contain lowland meadow habitat and many are the responsibility of local communities to manage. Situated in the heart of communities, these sites can act as islands of high quality habitat and become seed banks for wider habitat restoration.
Hyd Y Prosiect- Gorffennaf 2018-Tachwedd 2019
Mae safleoedd claddu yng Nghymru’n cynnwys dolydd yr iseldir fel cynefin a chymunedau lleol sy’n gyfrifol am reoli llawer ohonynt. Mae’r safleoedd hyn, sydd wedi’u lleoli yng nghalon y cymunedau, yn gallu gweithredu fel ynysoedd o gynefin o ansawdd uchel a datblygu i fod yn gronfeydd hadau ar gyfer adfer cynefin ehangach.
