Littleham – St Margaret & St Andrew
About this churchyard
St Margaret’s & St Andrew’s Churchyard is an ancient site with aspects of the current church dating back to 1254. it holds the accolade of the largest churchyard in Devon and a booklet about some of the more notable internments can be found here.
Adjoining the churchyard is a traditional cemetery and a secluded green burial ground. As an active burial ground the site in managed by a sextant with grassland management plan developed by a local ecologist and executed with the help of volunteers.
The varied grassland habitats created by the cutting regime provides habitat for insects and small mammals and hunting grounds for insectivorous birds and birds of prey.
Within the sward a variety of species indicative of unimproved species rich grassland can be found including common knapweed, greater and common bird’s foot trefoil, mouse ear hawkweed and beaked hawksbeard as well as Devon notable Corky-fruited Water-dropwort (Oenanthe pimpinelloides).

Accessibility
The burial ground is generally level with wide paths some with flagstones and some tarmac as well as grass mown paths. Access via the lych gate is up a slight incline to the church (the step can be avoided). Access from the car park on Capel is level but a long way from the church.
Toilets
There is a toilet by the lych gate that is open during church events.
Parking & Transport
There is a car park accessible from Capel Lane at the opposite end of the burial ground to the church.

The Clinton Arms and Tythe Cottage Restaurant are a few minutes walk from the churchyard and there are other options in Exmouth within 10 mins drive.
