Talks from Cardiff Conference March 2020

On 12th March, Caring for God’s Acre held a conference in Cardiff as part of our celebrations of the Year of the Burial Ground; a second conference was intended to be held in Sheffield a couple of weeks later. Unfortunately we had to cancel the Sheffield conference due to the spread of the coronavirus and we are hoping that we can hold this in 2021.

In the meantime, here are some of the talks and slides for you to enjoy whilst you are isolating at home. We’d like to thank all the speakers for permission to use their talks and/or images on this page.

Our CEO, Harriet Carty started the day with her talk ‘The Beautiful Burial Ground’

Next came a talk on ‘Traditional Grasslands’ by Dr George Peterken, OBE

After the break we heard from Professor Harold Mytum, University of Liverpool on ‘Beyond names and dates: why memorials are so important’

Finally our last talk of the morning was from Mark Duffell of Arvensis Ecology on ‘Why Record?’
