Join us for an inspiring day discovering how to transform burial grounds into havens for people, wildlife and heritage. We are delighted that our Patron, Chris Baines will be the Keynote speaker. Chris is an independent environmentalist with an international reputation as a landscape communicator, an award-winning writer and broadcaster.  We are also welcoming back Harold Mytum, Professor of Archaeology and author of Recording and Analysing Graveyards whose ever popular workshops are always a hit!

The morning will consist of speakers with time for questions. The afternoon consists of two workshops, 50 minutes each:
WORKSHOP CHOICES 

First workshop – choice of: 

1. Putting Burial Grounds on the Map 

Join this workshop to learn how to upload your wildlife sightings to the first ever online biodiversity database for burial grounds.

2. Blooming and Beautiful – getting the balance right 
Join this workshop to discover how to manage the grassland in burial grounds in a way that encourages wildflowers whilst being sensitive to visitors’ needs.  
Plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion.

3. Investigating and Recording Memorials 
This workshop will cover the how you can collect information about the cultural heritage of the burial ground, particularly the monuments. This can help you appreciate, manage and interpret the graveyard, and safeguard it for the future.

Second Workshop – choice of: 

1. The Five Steps 
This workshop will cover the five steps to planning the management of your site and encouraging others to be involved. Helping you to be proactive rather than responding to problems and overdue tasks. Learn how to produce a plan that is suitable for your site and realistic for your resources.

2. Involving the Community – accessibility for all 
Ideas and top tips for publicising and running events to engage the wider community in your site – with a focus on making them accessible for all. George has organised over 100 successful events across the country over the past two years so examples will be shared in this workshop.
